UK Stocks-Factors to watch on Aug. 22

August 22 (Reuters) - Britain's FTSE 100 .FTSE index is seen opening flat with futures FFIc1 down 0.05% on Monday.

* WIZZ AIR: European budget carrier Wizz Air WIZZ.L has suspended plans to resume flights from the Russian capital of Moscow to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, amid mounting criticism over the relaunch decision this month.

* STRIKE: More than 1,900 workers at Britain's biggest container port start eight days of strike action on Sunday which their union and shipping companies warn could seriously affect trade and supply chains.

* OIL: Oil prices fell, ending three days of gains, on fears aggressive U.S. interest rate hikes may lead to a global economic slowdown and dent fuel demand.

* GOLD: Gold prices hit their lowest in more than three weeks, weighed down by a stronger dollar and expectations of more rate hikes from the U.S. Federal Reserve to tame surging inflation.

* METALS: Most base metals opened higher, as China cut some key lending rates in an effort to support a slowing economy and a stressed housing sector, raising hopes of a demand recovery in the world's top metal producer and consumer.

* UK mid cap stocks .FTMC logged their worst weekly performance since early July on Friday as a bunch of grim data this week including consumer sentiment hitting a record low in August stoked fears about a recession in the world's fifth-largest economy.
