Turkey - Factors to Watch on Aug 23
ANKARA, Aug 23 (Reuters) - Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Tuesday.
The lira TRYTOM=D3 traded at 18.09 against the dollar at 0410 GMT, little changed from its closing level on Monday.
The main BIST 100 share index .XU100 closed 1.4% higher at 3,062.49 points on Monday.
Asian shares were down for a sixth straight session on Tuesday after a renewed spike in European energy prices stoked fears of recession and pushed bond yields higher, while tipping the euro to 20-year lows.
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan will welcome Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas with an official ceremony in Ankara. The two presidents will hold a joint press conference following a meeting. (1400/1415/1530)
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday the country did not need to hike interest rates, but instead work on raising investment, employment, production and exports and achieving a current account surplus.
Transport Minister Adil Karaismailoglu will attend a trilateral ministerial meeting between Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
Energy Minister Fatih Donmez travels to Oman and Qatar on Tuesday and Wednesday. Donmez will meet with his Omani counterpart, Salem Al-Aufi on Tuesday and Qatar's minister responsible for energy affairs, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi on Wednesday.
